| Summary of Aims/
Objectives of the Project |
- Collection of seeds, vegetative propagules, saplings of the
targets species.
- Introduction, propagation and multiplication of 10 critically
endangered species of medicinal plants from different geographic
locations of the Western Ghat regions of Maharashtra and its
adjoining regions at ex – situ conservatory of University Botanic
garden, Pune.
- Undertaking micro propagation on Ceropegia sahyadrica and its
reintroduction into natural habitats.
- Creating awareness among students and citizens about conservation
of target plant species.
- Utilization of the programme for education, awareness,
assortments and building partnership with relevant organization,
institutions and experts.

| Expected Outcome |
- Introduction, ex – situ conservation of 10 RET medicinal plant
species from different geographic locations of the western Ghat
regions of Maharashtra and its adjoining areas. (The species are:
Bidaria khandalensis, Bidaria montanum, Ceropegia sahyadrica,
Chlorophytum arundiinaceum, Chlorophytum borivilianum, Embelia ribes,
Gloriosa superba, Gymnema sylvestre, Nothapodytes nimmoniana,
Rauwolfia serpentina).
- Distribution of multiplied plants species to the forest
department for in – situ conservation.
- Imparting education to thousands of students and staff from
schools, affiliated college and other universities who visit to the
department garden.
- Development of propagation techniques for multiplication of
plants in the nurseries and maintenance of multiplied plants.
