| Summary of Aims/
Objectives of the Project |
- Collection of germplasm of 10 threatened/endangered species
of medicinal plants from different sites of Himachal pradesh, and
their maintenance, multiplication, and creation of a broad
genetic resource base of these species in ex situ conservatory in
the Botanic Garden.
- Restoration of two or three endangered species (among the 10
candidates) at one or two selected ecologically disturbed sites
of Medicinal Plant Reserves in Great Himalayan National Park.
- Strengthening the facilities and activities for the better
representation/knowledge to diverse group of public for creating
awareness about the importance of the species and their
conservation.

| Expected Outcome |
- Collection of germplasm of 10 RET species of medicinal and
Aromatic plants from different sites of Himachal Pradesh and their
multiplication and ex-situ conservation at Y.S. Parmar University
Botanic Garden. The species are: angelica glauca, Berbaris
aristata, Curculigo verticellatum, Rheum australe, Skimmia laureola,
Taxus wallichiana
- Establishment of a Database on existing germplasm for National
Networking.
- Four public awareness and training germplasm for higher
secondary school students, farmers, NGO’s and Mahila Mandals.
- Restoration and reintroduction of three endangered species
selected among the 10 target RET species at two ecologically
distributed sites in Great Himalayan National Park.
- Strengthening the infrastructure of the garden, including
installation of a fountain sprinkler, and other irrigation, and
display facilities.

| Summary of Aims/
Objectives of the Project |
- Enrichment of the plant biodiversity of the Botanical Garden by
introduction of RET plants of medicinal importance collected from
different regions in the state elsewhere.
- Basic research for the multiplication and propagation of
medicinal plants, and other target species by ex-situ and integrated
conservation methods.
- Display of medicinal plants so as to educate the people of the
region on their identification, uses and potential values.
- Propagation and reintroduction of critically endangered plants
into their natural habitats.
- Development of a herbal museum.
- Education and training to farmers, students and other interested
persons in conservation of medicinal plants.

| Expected Outcome |
- Establishment of a Herbal Garden at GNDU Botanic Garden,
Amritsar to conserve, propagate, and distribute medicinal plants to
other educational institutions of the region.
- Micro propagation of the target species using appropriate
methods and techniques.
- Multiplication of target species by seed propagation and other
methods (cutting, plantlets and other vegetative means).
- Awareness programme to encourage relevant institutions, schools,
NGO’s and local people for the cultivation practices.
- Improvement to garden infrastructure, including construction of
Poly House / Net House.
