Summary of Aims/ Objectives of the Project
  1. Propagation of 24 plant species for educational and academic purpose.
  2. Propagation of about 20 threatened plant taxa for ex-situ conservation at JUBG using different methods and techniques.
  3. Collection, ex-situ conservation and management of important medicinal plants of Central Indian region.
  4. Creating awareness among students and public regarding plant biodiversity and its importance.
Expected Outcome
  1. Conservation of plant diversity of the target RET plants (about 44 taxa).
  2. Promotion of education and awareness among students about plant diversity.
  3. Promotion of research on systematics, taxonomy and rare plants.
  4. Education for people through display of plants and ‘Awareness Campaigns’.

Summary of Aims/ Objectives of the Project
  1. Strengthening and enhancing the existing plant wealth of H.S.G.V. Botanic Garden for the purpose of conservation, education, teaching, and exchange of plant materials.
  2. Survey and exploration of those particular areas for collection of live materials of the target 25 RET species.
  3. Study on soil factors and other habitat features, and natural regeneration potentials of selected RET species.
  4. Multiplication and cultivation of plant species by seeds and vegetative propagation methods.
  5. Maintenance of germ-plasm collections under ex-situ conditions (i.e. in botanic garden with proper assessment and monitoring).
  6. Promoting general awareness and conservation education among students, teachers by organizing visits to Botanic Garden and conducting training programme on multiplication and propagation techniques.
  7. Publication of a Botanic Garden Directory and Index Seminum for the purpose of ready reckoner regarding availability and exchange of germplasms between similar institutions in Madhya Pradesh
Expected Outcome
  1. Collection, ex-situ conservation, propagation and management of 25 targeted RET species from different areas of Madhya Pradesh i.e. Sagar, Damoh, Katni, Chhhatarpur and neighbouring areas.
  2. Preservation of seeds of those RET species which do not multiply by way of tubers/bulbs/rhizomes cutting etc.
  3. Reintroduction of 3 or 5 plant species from the RET species list in nature through appropriate methodology and techniques.
  4. Awareness/training/education programmes/scientific exhibition for school, college/university students, general public, NGO’s.
  5. Data and information system on RET species with all details alongwith the basic information on trade, distribution, threatened status, uses in traditional systems of medicines, etc.
