AIMS AND OUTCOMES

The principle aims of the workshop programme will be to provide at least six workshops relevant to plant conservation and botanic gardens management for the staff of Indian botanic gardens and related organizations.

The primary outcomes expected for the staff of botanic gardens and associated organizations include:

  • An improved understanding of the concepts of plant conservation.
  • An improved understanding of resource generation by sharing expertise, technical know how through network, etc.
  • An improved appreciation of the importance of garden collections/ records.
  • An improved appreciation of the role of research in botanic gardens in Indian botanic gardens.
  • An improved understanding of the concepts of collection management.
  • An improved appreciation of the importance of eco-education/interpretation in Indian botanic gardens.
  • An improved understanding of the concepts of landscape development and management.

NBRI will be organising a four day work shop in 24-27 February, 2004 and it aims to discuss the management of botanic gardens of India with a focus on high altitude gardens in northern India. The following is the provisional programme:
