The programme will enable:

  • The establishment of the first ever network of Indian botanic gardens which will achieve a closer interaction among the botanic gardens for conservation the sustainable use of plant diversity and eco-education activities.
  • The first ever database on plants cultivated in Indian botanic gardens for use in conservation programmes. The authenticated database will serve as the referral source/ manual for those who are interested to know about the plant wealth and in-country conservation activities.
  • The establishment of the first ever website on Indian botanic gardens. The website will be linked with global websites and will serve as the referral source/ manual for those who are interested to know about the plant wealth and in-country conservation activities on the Internet.
  • The enhanced involvement of Indian botanic gardens in plant conservation through small grant programmes, thereby enhancing the level of conservation for India's flora.
  • The creation of better public awareness of the roles of botanic gardens in India and thus an increased
    profile of India's botanic gardens both nationally and internationally.
  • The training of persons from selected botanic gardens in modern methods for the conservation of plants.
  • The publication of a handbook for education in Indian Botanic Gardens.
  • The facilitation of state of the art facilities and blue prints for modern gardens, including model education programmes, medicinal plant projects and a major new botanic garden project, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF)/ Botanical Survey of India (BSI) to develop the Botanic Garden of Indian Republic in Noida.
