Experts/
officials from CSIR, NBRI, NIO Goa, DBT, French Institute of Pondicherry,
Zoo Outreach, NBPGR/ ICAR, etc. participated in the deliberations
and discussions on the BioNET INTERNATIONAL programme and mechanisms
of establishing the SACNET Loop.
The
following recommendation were made:

Participants supported the idea of establishment of SACNET Loop.
-
Ministry
of Environment and Forest (MoEF) may function as the National
Coordinating Centre for SACNET under BioNET INTERNATIONAL programme.

CSIR/ NBRI may act as the technical coordinating centre (NACI)
through MoEF.
-
MoEF organizations like Zoological Survey of India (ZSI), Botanical
Survey of India (BSI), etc.; CSIR institutions like National
Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), National Institute of Oceanography
(NIO), Regional Research Laboratory (RRL), Jammu, etc.; ICAR
institutions like National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources
(NBPGR), National Bureau of Fish Genetic
Resources (NBFGR), etc. and others like Central Marine Fisheries
Research Institute (CMFRI), Indian Council of Forestry Research
and Education (ICFRE), Department of Ocean Development (DOD),
Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Department of Science and
Technology (DST), NGOs such as Zoo Outreach international etc.,
may act as National Institutes (NI).

Participants recommended that the establishment of a regional
network and sharing of biodiversity data should be a priority
project for discussion in Formulation Workshop in Dhaka.

It
was recommended that NBRI would organize a SACNET Implementation
workshop on Information Management in December 2003.

Participants recommended that India would be represented by
a representative each from MOEF, CSIR/NBRI NGO/Zoo outreach
in the Formulation workshop of the SACNET Loop and that Dr.
S.Kumar may present the recommendations of this workshop in
GBF meeting to be held at Dhaka from 15-18 June 2003.
