Objectives:
 

 
  1. To establish a MMPG at TBGRI (situated at 8◦ 45’ N latitude and 77◦ 1’ E longitude and at an elevation of 75 – 110m MSL) that will serve as a major tool for conservation and eco education and a standard by which other gardens can be measured and accepted as part of the network.
     
  2. To explore various floristic regions of Peninsular India to collect, and conserve rare and endemic medicinal plants including RET species.
     
  3. To develop one-hectare area (as I Phase) rich in local flora, suitably landscaped with forest trails (of about 1 km), a pond ecosystem and stream facilitating the display of medicinal plants in natural setting.
     
  4. To develop a fully data base collection of medicinal plants and endangered species and link the garden with the National database of botanical gardens and threatened species, IBGN and IIN-India.
     
  5. To develop a display area for a sample home yard medicinal garden and a hut.
     
  6. To popularize medicinal plants cultivation through the supply of propagules to farmers and also educate people about the cultivation on of medicinal plants in peninsular region to reduce collection from wild.
     
  7. To establish as a centre to convey the messages, “Herbs for all, Health for all” "Conserve and Utilize Medicinal Plants".
     
  8. To create a centre for eco-education and awareness with models/images and educational boards.
     
  9. To develop the area as a unique centre for eco-tourism and training on medicinal plant cultivation and conservation.
