Objectives:
 

 
  • To establish a model medicinal plants garden at Pantnagar (situated at 290 N Latitude and 79030’ E Longitude and at an elevation of 243m msl near the outer hills of the Himalayas), which will be open to general public and available for academic, aesthetic and recreational aspects.
     
  • To develop a fully databased collection of medicinal plant species, which includes common, rare, threatened and endangered plant species from four different zones of Central Himalayas (Tarai, Babhar, Middle and Higher Himalayas) with particular reference to Uttaranchal state.
     
  • To identify, catalogue and prepare herbarium of medicinal plants (GBPUAT) as digitize the collections (NBRI, Lucknow).
     
  • To educate regional people about conservation, education, eco-tourism, availability of planting material and cultivation of medicinal plants in the Uttaranchal region to reduce collection from the wild.
     
  • To establish a medicinal plants garden that will serve, as a major tool for conservation and eco-education and a standard by which other gardens can be measured and accepted as a part of the network.
     
  • To establish local linkages with local activities of relevant organizations like centre MRDC of GBPUAT, CIMAP and other organizations.
     
  • To establish linkage with the National database of Indian botanic gardens and Indian Botanic Gardens Network of IIN India.

Site preparation; Manpower recruitment and procurement of equipments. Site preparation and procurement of planting material. Procurement and establishment of planting material; initiation of herbarium preparation. Procurement, establishment and propagation of planting material; preparation of herbarium and catalogue description and open to visitors.

Year 2

Procurement and establishment of planting material; preparation of herbarium, catalogue description and preparation of brochure.

Propagation of planting material; publication of brochure; standardization of herbarium and photography. Propagation of planting material; supply of herbarium to NBRI for digitization.
