IIN-India Forum Meeting 17 July 2004


As a prelude to the first IIN-India Forum Meeting scheduled in September 2004, a meeting was held in the Business Development Room of NBRI on 17th July 2004. The following were present:

Drs. R. C. Agrawal and R. R. Hirwani could not attend the meeting due to prior engagements at their end.
 
Dr. P. Pushpangadan, Director, NBRI gratefully acknowledged and thanked the support of MOEF, BSI, ICFRE, AYUSH, MOHFW, DBT, ICAR, CSIR, CIMAP, CDRI, IHBT, RRL Jammu, TBGRI and Universities for sending their representatives to this meeting. He welcomed all the distinguished participants to the meeting and briefly explained NBRI’s profile as a multi disciplinary plant science research institute. He informed the participants about NBRI’s involvement in developing the databases, networks and establishing links with international networks and about NBRI’s role as the Nodal Centre of many national and international programmes. He then invited Dr. S. Kumar to give a presentation on the IIN-India activities at NBRI.

Dr. S. Kumar made a detailed presentation on the aims and objectives of IIN-India programmes. Information about Investing in Nature Programme (IIN-India), which in collaboration with BGCI, UK, aims to develop a network/ website/ database of 140 Botanic Gardens of India, was presented. A prototype of National database of threatened plants was also demonstrated.
